Art Class Still Life

Painting

Sketching

I think the basic pencil or pen has always been my medium of choice. From the time I was just a tot, Drew always encouraged me to use a pen (a delicious blue one, as we like to call them. They are the solid, royal blue papermate ones) as to not be afraid to make mistakes, and plan ahead. I think that is one major factor in helping my style develop.

This was a 15 minute sketch of me on my wedding day. I am not normally one for drawing realistic or photo-referenced sketches, but sometimes I get in the mood.

Here is an example of my more exaggerated characters. I love big eyes and ridiculously skinny people. One thing I always strive for in my artwork is for people to look at my drawings and easily identify me as the artist. Hopefully my style captures that.
This is Super Lili, one of my earliest creations back in Junior High. I made many a comic strip after her, and several of my Halloween costumes were fashioned after her. Her side kick, Sturgeon Boy, paid tribute to my hamster(s) named Sturgeon. May all 7 of them rest in peace.
This is Jeff, my husband. This was drawn back in 2007 when we were merely dating. I was attracted to him very early on because his big eyes and beautiful hair and perfectly shaped nose were very reminiscent of my drawings. Sometimes I have moments where I see someone who looks familiar, and I realize I have drawn something similar to them. Weird, eh? Anyway, Jeff is one of those fun people to draw.
